About Sameer Badarudeen, M.D., MPH, FAAOS

About Dr. Badarudeen:

Dr. Sameer Badarudeen received his medical degree and post-graduate training in orthopaedic surgery from the University of Kerala. He was awarded a traveling fellowship to the U.S. to visit the Mayo Clinic in 2005. In 2006, he earned a master’s in public health at Southern Illinois University. He then joined Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles for a general surgery internship. After graduating from Cedars Sinai Medical Center, he moved to Boston University where he completed an orthopaedic surgery residency training. He is specialized in hip and knee replacement surgery through fellowship training in adult reconstruction from the University of Louisville.

Badarudeen is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of orthopedic public health and patient education and has led research in this field at University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey (now Rutgers University) and at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center. His research has been cited by the National Institutes of Health and its equivalent in the UK, the National Institute for Health Research, as well as many other prestigious publications. His current research focuses on reducing the risk of infection after surgery and on how to improve the lifespan of joint replacements.

“My favorite thing about my job is the instant relief that I can give my patients. Joint replacement surgery is a quality-of-life surgery. There are people who have not been able to play with their grandchildren or maintain gainful employment, and we can give that back to them. This is truly an amazing, life-changing surgery, and I’m so fortunate to be able to do that for my patients.”
