NO SURPRISES ACT

The No Surprises Act passed by Congress as a part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 entitles patients to a variety of rights and protections. Patients who are covered by a group health plan, individuals covered by health insurance coverage offered by a health insurance issuer, and individuals in a health benefit plan under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program have protections against “balance billing” also sometimes called “surprise billing.” Additionally, uninsured individuals and individuals choosing not to use their insurance have rights related to Good Faith Estimates related to non-emergency services.

Please visit No Surprises Act for more information on these topics. Also, more information is available through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

A note about COVID-19 billing

COVID-19 billing can be complicated. Med Center Health receives information from your insurance company and sends you a bill for the amount your insurance company says you owe. If the charges on your statement are related to treatment of COVID-19 and you believe your insurance company should have not passed the balance on to you, please contact your insurance company. Most insurances list contact phone numbers on the back of the insurance card.

If you need help contacting your insurance company, we are here for you.
