The Medical Center at Scottsville Earns ACR Accreditation

The Medical Center at Scottsville has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). CT scanning — sometimes called CAT scanning — is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.

ACR accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging – representing the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

“ACR accreditation recognizes that Med Center Scottsville provides the highest standards of image quality and captures clear detailed images,” said Jennifer King, RT (R), Radiology Manager at Med Center Health Scottsville.  “Our highly trained radiologist and technologist always ensure excellent patient care is our main focus.  The ACR is also a great resource for providing best practices to accredited facilities.  We always follow these recommendations.”

ACR accreditation is the gold standard to ensure patients receive quality radiological care and diagnostic treatment.  Accreditation is required for outpatient providers to bill Medicare Part B for certain imaging procedures.

“We have a great team of CT techs and I knew we would pass, but it is always nice when we receive recognition from such a reputable institution,” said King. “Our Radiologist and Technologist meet stringent education standards.  Our equipment is regularly inspected by qualified medical physicists and our facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines required by the ACR. Not to mention, our equipment is also the newest and latest CT technology in this region.”

The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care. The College serves more than 37,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

With this recent accreditation, Med Center Health’s hospitals in Albany, Bowling Green, Franklin, Horse Cave (Caverna), and Scottsville are all now accredited by the ACR in CT. Learn more at MedCenterHealth.org/Scottsville.
