The Medical Center at Bowling Green is the first hospital in the region to offer a new treatment for metastatic prostate cancer
The Medical Center at Bowling Green is proud to announce it is the first hospital in the region, and the seventh hospital in the state, to offer Pluvicto® for patients with metastatic prostate cancer.
Pluvicto is a targeted radioligand therapy used to treat advanced prostate cancer in patients who have been previously treated with androgen receptor pathway inhibition. Pluvicto is a radiopharmaceutical therapy that binds to prostate cancer cells expressing PSMA, while limiting radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.
“When prostate cancer spreads, patients may face fewer treatment options,” said Dr. Diego Cabrera, Oncologist and Hematologist at Med Center Health. “Pluvicto has been one of the best new treatments available for prostate cancer. Offering Pluvicto locally gives eligible patients access to an important treatment while allowing them to remain closer to their families and support systems.”
Metastatic prostate cancer occurs when cancer spreads beyond the prostate to areas like the bones or lymph nodes, making treatment options feel limited. Pluvicto provides advanced radiopharmaceutical therapy that targets cancer cells directly, giving patients the chance for better outcomes and an improved quality of life.
“Our Nuclear Medicine team is proud to continue our collaboration with the Cancer Center,” said Laura Ortiz, Nuclear Medicine Director at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. “Before we began Pluvicto, patients were traveling hours for radioligand therapy. Providing this treatment in Bowling Green reduces that burden and represents another step forward in specialized cancer care for our region.”
