The Medical Center at Albany Earns ACR Accreditation

The Medical Center at Albany has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). CT scanning — sometimes called CAT scanning — is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.

ACR accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging – representing the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

“The Medical Center at Albany’s diagnostic Imaging staff is dedicated to providing the residents of Clinton and surrounding counties with the highest quality diagnostic imaging services,” says Laura Belcher, Vice President and Administrator of The Medical Center at Albany. “Achieving ACR accreditation in CT demonstrates our commitment to enhancing our imaging services, allowing residents to stay close to home for the imaging services they may need.” In addition to CT, the hospital also offers bone density, digital mammography, echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, radiology, and ultrasound.

“I am beyond excited about our new CT scanner and what it has to offer the communities we serve,” said Tara Chilton, Radiology Manager of The Medical Center at Albany. “We have added more advanced imaging services with this new CT scanner as well as faster scan times and lower radiation dose. We are extremely thankful for this opportunity to improve services and offer the best care close to home for our patients.”

The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care. The College serves more than 37,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

With this recent accreditation, Med Center Health’s hospitals in Albany, Bowling Green, Franklin, Horse Cave (Caverna), and Scottsville are all now accredited by the ACR in CT. Learn more at MedCenterHealth.org/Albany.
