About Spencer Romine, M.D.

UK HealthCare physician Spencer Romine, M.D. brings his expertise in shoulder surgery and sports medicine to the Med Center Health Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine team. A four-year starting quarterback for the Duke University Blue Devils and former Assistant Team Physician for the Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, he brings a unique perspective to orthopaedic care. Having undergone seven surgeries while playing football in college, he can connect with his patients in a unique way from physical and mental perspectives because of his own experiences.

“I want my patients to ‘buy-in’ to being a part of their care by having easily understood conversations about their injury or orthopaedic problem,” says Dr. Romine. He treats his patients with respect and kindness, and has always considered himself “on call” at all times when it concerns the care of his patients.

Board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and fellowship-trained in Sports Medicine, Dr. Romine diagnoses and treats ACL injuries, meniscus tears and sports injuries. He fixes tendon injuries including Achilles, quadriceps/patellar tendon, and bicep/tricep tendon tears. Performing 1,500 shoulder replacements in his career, he can improve quality of life for patients with shoulder problems such as instability, rotator cuff tears and arthritis through minimally-invasive arthroscopy and arthroplasty.
