Opening the doors to women’s care through every stage of life

When it comes to women’s health, it’s important to find healthcare providers who understand a woman’s unique journey and who can care for you through all of life’s stages. Whether a teenager making an appointment with an OB/GYN for the first time, a mother with her baby in the NICU, or an elder woman being screened for cancer, you want to have all the resources you need close to home.

Med Center Health offers healthcare providers who understand and care about women in every phase of life. With the opening of the new Women’s Pavilion near the campus of The Medical Center at Bowling Green, we have expanded services and provided a dedicated space with the focus solely on women and newborns.

“It’s important for women to know there is one place they can go to be understood and receive the best care available,” says Jeffery Nemec, M.D., OB/GYN with Women’s Health Specialists. “With the opening of the Women’s Pavilion, we are addressing the vital importance of healthcare for women in our region.”

Women’s Health Specialists, located in the Women’s Pavilion at 523 Park Street, has provided gynecologic and obstetric services for women in Southcentral Kentucky for more than 20 years. The physicians and staff at Women’s Health Specialists are dedicated to improving the lives of women. With six board-certified OB/GYNs and four Certified Nurse Midwives, Women’s Health Specialists is the premier women’s health practice in our area.

If gynecological surgery is required, Women’s Health Specialists offers OB/GYNs who are certified in use of the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. This provides minimally-invasive procedures that result in less pain, fewer complications, a shorter hospital stay and smaller incisions for less scarring.

In 2022, Women’s Health Specialists added the services of two gynecologic oncologists, Charles Dietrich, M.D., and Frederick Ueland, M.D., both with UK HealthCare. As gynecologic oncologists, they diagnose and treat a variety of cancers in women including cervical, endometrial (uterine), ovarian, vaginal, and vulvar. They work closely with a team of cancer specialists close to home in Bowling Green to coordinate a care plan designed to provide the patient with the best outcomes.

Women with high-risk pregnancies can receive help close to home with an outreach clinic of Norton Children’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine also located in the Women’s Pavilion. The board-certified specialists with Norton offer specialized care for women carrying multiples or facing challenges such as premature labor, maternal hypertension, gestational diabetes and more. Norton’s maternal-fetal medicine specialists work in partnership with your primary physician whenever possible, so you can continue your relationship with the provider you know best while receiving the specialized care you need throughout your pregnancy and delivery.

For premature or high-risk infants, The Medical Center at Bowling Green offers a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), providing state-of-the-art care in the most comfortable setting possible. The Medical Center NICU has highly-trained staff specializing in neonatal medicine, including neonatologists, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, breastfeeding or lactation consultants, occupational and speech therapists, laboratory and radiology technicians and others. We also have social workers/discharge planners who work with parents after discharge of newborns to coordinate care and equipment if needed.

This year, The Medical Center at Bowling Green will be hosting an Expectant Parent Fair scheduled for April 16. The fair offers interactive booths and demonstrations, and information from area providers and vendors specifically for people expecting their first child. The Medical Center also offers pre-natal classes available all year round, as well as a post-partum class. To see the classes available, visit medcenterhealth.org/OBClasses. Women have unique healthcare needs. Whether it is gynecologic care for young or old, help with pregnancy or breastfeeding, or treatment for cancers in women, it helps to have experts available close to home.
