The Medical Center Sleep Center receives 20th straight year of reaccreditation

The Medical Center Sleep Center recently received program reaccreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). The Sleep Center has been accredited by the AASM since 2003.

“Reaccreditation requires an intensive analysis of our patient evaluation clinic, in-lab and home testing sleep services,” said Justin Srygler, Director of the Sleep Center. “The constant evolution of clinical practice related to sleep medicine requires continual updates to patient management and testing.  Followed by a detailed application, we are required to show proof that we are meeting the AASM gold standards. The AASM has been the gold standard for improving patients’ sleep health since the 1970’s.  Both our accreditation and our continued membership with the AASM is a testimony of our commitment to professional health care and improving quality of life.”

To receive and maintain accreditation for a five-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM.  These standards address core areas such as personnel, facility and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance.  Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves.

“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates The Medical Center Sleep Center on meeting the high standards required to earn reaccreditation as a sleep disorders center,” said Dr. James Rowley, AASM President. “The Medical Center Sleep Center is an important resource for the local community and will provide the highest quality care for people who have sleep disorders. Sleep is essential to health, and the effective treatment of sleep disorders can be life-changing.”

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredited a sleep disorders center for the first time in 1977. Today there are more than 2,600 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.
