The Medical Center at Bowling Green awarded Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers from The Joint Commission

The Medical Center at Bowling Green has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers. The Medical Center was first certified in 2009 and has maintained its certification ever since.

The Medical Center at Bowling Green underwent a rigorous, unannounced review in January 2022. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program management, the delivery of clinical care and performance improvement. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewer also conducted observations and interviews.

“Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers recognizes healthcare organizations committed to fostering continuous quality improvement in patient safety and quality of care,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, Chief Operating Officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and Chief Nursing Executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend The Medical Center at Bowling Green for using certification to reduce variation in its clinical processes and to strengthen its program structure and management framework for stroke patients.”

“We congratulate The Medical Center at Bowling Green for this outstanding achievement,” says Nancy Brown, Chief Executive Officer, the American Stroke Association. “This certification reflects its commitment to providing the highest quality of care for stroke patients.”

“Being re-certified again as an Advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission clearly demonstrates that everyone involved in the care and service of our stroke patients is highly committed to ensuring that they have the very best chance for a positive outcome by translating the most current scientific evidence into daily clinical practice,” says Bill Singletary, RN, Stroke Program Coordinator. “I am so very proud of our Physicians and Stroke teams and sincerely appreciate the ongoing support of our Stroke program by Med Center Health’s Administrative Team.”
