Epidemiology – the study of infectious disease outbreaks – is a focus of our professionals at Med Center Health Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine. When an outbreak occurs, we usually become involved, partnering with the health department or even the CDC to ensure proper identification and treatment.
Infectious Diseases is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine. All our physicians are medical doctors, specializing in internal medicine, and have completed a two-year fellowship in Infectious Diseases, with post-graduate training in Epidemiology. Our staff also teaches and lectures other physicians, nurses, health and community groups.
Our goal with any Infectious Disease incident is to properly identify illness, review risk factors to those who may have come in contact with patients, and immediately do all things in our power to stop the spread and minimize the outbreak.
