In Memoriam – Dr. Barton Spurlin
It is with regret that we share the passing of Dr. Barton Spurlin. Dr. Spurlin passed away on May 25, 2026. He worked as a Physician with Team Health in The Medical Center at Bowling Green Emergency Department since 2008. Over the last 18 years, he served in multiple roles, including Medical Director for the Emergency Departments at The Medical Center at Bowling Green and our rural hospitals. “Bart was always willing to help and accommodate whatever situation arose, often going above and beyond for those around him. He had a genuine passion for teaching and mentoring others. As one of the first Emergency Department physicians to work with students from the Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine, he welcomed learners with patience and enthusiasm. It was not uncommon for him to take on multiple students during a shift, then continue teaching afterward while sharing a meal he himself had generously provided. Whenever we faced a difficult shift or staffing challenge, Bart would always find a way to help meet the need. Even in the most difficult medical situations, he maintained a positive outlook and approached problems with calmness, compassion, and thoughtful solutions. More than anything, Bart was a true friend. He deeply cared for his patients, his coworkers, and most especially his family. He spoke about his family often and with tremendous pride, and they were always a meaningful part of our conversations. Bart was an exceptional person in so many ways. He was compassionate, generous, dependable, and kind. His impact on those who knew and worked alongside him will not be forgotten, and he will be deeply missed.” – Dr. William Moss
