The Medical Center’s Surgical Weight Loss Program Earns SRC’s Center of Excellence Accreditation
The Medical Center Surgical Weight Loss program recently achieved re-accreditation from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. This accreditation recognizes The Medical Center’s commitment and high standard of delivery of quality patient care and safety.
Status as an accredited Center of Excellence means that the Medical Center Surgical Weight Loss Program has met nationally and internationally recognized standards. Not all hospitals and surgeons seek accreditation; not all that undergo the rigorous inspection process are granted accreditation.
“The re-accreditation is a validation of the work we do at The Medical Center Surgical Weight Loss Program,” said Dr. O. Raphael Nwanguma, bariatric surgeon at The Medical Center. “It means our patients receive great medical care and minimal complications associated with weight loss surgery.”
Healthcare facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements.
“We want residents in our area to be assured and confident in the services we provide,” said Dr. Nwanguma. “We want them to know we provide excellent care. There is no need to go outside of our area to seek the same services we provide.”
Accreditation requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment.
