Good Samaritan – Sonya Hood
Congratulations to Sonya Hood, Clinical Staff Nurse at the Medical Center at Franklin, on receiving the Good Samaritan Award. Sonya was nominated for going above and beyond to help a patient that was in need.
“Sonya is an RN in Acute Care but has been filling in for our Social Worker position. Recently, a patient came through the ER who required a social services consult. The patient was homeless, and all she had was her dog. The patient needed to be transferred to The Medical Center at Bowling Green, and the dog was taken to the animal shelter. The patient was distraught about being separated from her dog, as this was all she had. With the patient’s permission, Sonya picked up the dog from the shelter and took it to her home. She is still caring for the dog until the patient is discharged from the hospital. This act of kindness has helped the patient cope with her illness, knowing her dog is in someone’s care and not at the animal shelter. I feel confident that this will help the patient heal mentally and physically while she is in the hospital. Sonya’s generosity is a great example to others of how she goes above and beyond to care for the patients of Med Center Health.” – Tori Krantz
