Good Samaritan – Natalie Phillips
Congratulations to Natalie Phillips, Clinical Staff Nurse at the Medical Center at Bowling Green, on receiving the Good Samaritan Award. Natalie was nominated for going above and beyond for a coworker.
“Natalie is a coworker of mine. She checked on my family during an extremely hard time. My little cousin wanted a way to record her dad’s heartbeat before he passed. Natalie took time to walk down to 3C with a Doppler and let his daughter record a five-minute audio of his beating heart. Fast forward to today, 7/29; his daughter has used that audio as comfort and joy. Natalie did something she thought was small that has forever impacted our family and, most importantly, his baby.” – Tamera Baskerville
“Natalie is very deserving of this nomination. She is always willing to step up and help coworkers, patients, or wherever the need arises. This particular situation was very tough. A coworker’s brother had an unexpected MI at a very young age and was considered “brain dead.” Family gathered around him before they turned everything off. His young daughter wanted the audio of her dad’s heartbeat before he passed. Natalie made time to make that happen and went to the ICU with the Doppler and recorded his heartbeat for her and comforted her coworker’s family. This isn’t the first time Natalie has gone out of her way to help others. She has gone to other units when they need help containing a leaking ostomy or to answer questions. She steps up frequently as charge nurse to handle the chaos while also making her patients and coworkers laugh.” – Crystal Thomas
