NICU Reunion Brings Joy to Patients, Parents, and Staff
On Sunday, September 13, former NICU patients and their families returned to Med Center Health for The Medical Center at Bowling Green’s 16th NICU Reunion. More than 200 people were in attendance at the event that was held at The Medical Center-WKU Health Sciences Complex.
The event brought much joy to staff and parents alike. Neonatologist Aspasia Fissikoudi, M.D. and numerous NICU nurses who care for our tiniest patients enjoyed reuniting with parents and seeing how their children have grown since their time in the NICU. Anne Mosier and Megan Freeman with Rehab Services interacted with the children and talked with parents about developmental milestones.
Below are some of the stories shared by parents who expressed their gratitude to the NICU staff for the lasting impression they made on them.
“I had Mason on June 17, 2025. He was born with the cord around his neck, I believe it was due to him unable to breathe on his own. He stayed there for almost a week. The nurses were amazing. I was having a hard time mentally seeing him that way, while I stayed at the hospitality house, I was by Mason’s side every chance I was allowed to be, and the nurses cried with me, and gave me encouragement. I’ll never forget the things they did in such a vulnerable moment. I’m so thankful for them and this opportunity to reunite.”
“Krue was diagnosed IUGR & ultimately stopped growing at 34 weeks. Born at only 4 lbs, Krue entered the NICU for low birth weight & because he couldn’t take a bottle. While in the NICU, Krue developed breast milk jaundice that landed him under the light. He was in the NICU for 5 days before we finally got to bring him home. Our nurses, Heather Givens, Sarah Cherry & Adrianna Anderson were heaven sent. We could not ask for anyone better to take care of Krue, they even made him the cutest hats. The best moment of the NICU was walking into Adrianna telling us Krue had an amazing night & hit all of his feed goals, one step closer to coming home!”
“Aelin was born at almost 1 month early. She had a brief stay in the NICU. She struggled with eating, jaundice and her oxygen. All the nurses we so kind and supportive. They made a first time mom, whose baby was in the NICU, feel confident and supported. I felt like I had help every step of the way.”
