Witness to Wellness Champion – Sarah Saysanavong
Congratulations to Sarah Saysanavong! Sarah is the new Witness to Wellness Award recipient in the Get Fit Club. Sarah’s inspiration for a lifestyle change was to have a hobby that she could enjoy and also get back on track for getting healthier. She said that nursing school and COVID had taken a toll on her health, weight and mental wellness. Sarah says she began her journey after a routine visit to MCH Primary Care and discussing a plan on how to lose weight and better her mental health. She began going to the gym 5-6 days a week. She began running anywhere between one mile to 3.2 miles on a treadmill and began lifting weights to build muscle for endurance. Since she began her lifestyle change, she now runs every other day. In the past year, Sarah has run an easy 5K, a 5K and a long run. Sarah is currently training for the BG Half Marathon. She continues her weight lifting targeting different muscle groups.
Sarah says that MCH, Primary Care, and her fellow colleagues have supported her through this journey. As a healthcare worker, she says get got plenty of steps in with patient care. But her big issue was personal activity. Sarah encourages others to be more active in your personal life. Find something you like to do; walking, running, tennis and get involved. Sarah says it’s a lot of fun and it gets your heartrate up!!
The Witness to Wellness program recognizes employees who are dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle. Sarah works for The Medical Center Bowling Green as a Registered Nurse on 4C. She was nominated because she changed her lifestyle to include “being more active”.
