Two RTs receive PHIL Award
During National Respiratory Care week October 23-29, the Med Center Health PHIL (Pulmonary Health and Illness of the Lung) Award presentation took place. The PHIL Award is the only nationally recognized hospital-based program that honors and recognizes respiratory therapists. Candidates are nominated by patients, their family members, peers, and other healthcare professionals.
The award was created in memory of Philip Lamka, who passed away due to complications from an interstitial lung disease. His wife, Sharman Lamka, founded the FACES Foundation in 2006 and established the PHIL Award program to honor the heroes of the respiratory therapy profession who play such a valuable role in the lives of patients with life-threatening pulmonary illness. This year, we are honored to award two exceptional respiratory therapists — Michelle Bryant with The Medical Center at Bowling Green and Carol Shirley with The Medical Center at Scottsville — who, through their unwavering commitment to professional excellence, have impacted the lives of many suffering from pulmonary illness.
