Seasonal Flu Vaccine Campaign

Why should I get the flu vaccine during the coronavirus pandemic?

As the flu season quickly approaches, getting the flu shot is still the number one thing that each of us can do to protect ourselves and provide for the safety and well-being of our patients, our families and our co-workers. Experts state that during the coronavirus pandemic it is more important than ever to get the flu vaccine. Doing so saves lives and preserves health care resources.

When AND How?
You can get your flu shot now. There is no cost for the flu shot and preservative free, egg free, and high dose vaccine will also be available on an as-needed basis, by appointment only, in the Employee Health office. When you get the vaccine, you will be given a sticker that will be placed on the front of your badge. This sticker designates that you have received the flu shot.

Beginning November 16, if you are working in a designated patient care area (see below) and do not receive the flu shot, you will be required complete the computer-based learning module titled FLU 2020 and electronically sign a declination to the vaccine. Please note that in the event the current COVID-19 mask requirement is lifted before March 31, 2021 AND you did not receive the flu vaccine, you will be required to wear a mask.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Don’t I already have to wear a mask?

Yes, currently every employee is to wear a mask because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This could change when there is a COVID-19 vaccine available.  More than likely you will need to have both vaccines before you will be able to work without a mask. These questions have not been answered. But what is certain, is if you do not get the flu vaccine, the mask requirement will stay in place for you.

Won’t my mask protect me from the flu?

It can but the best way to protect yourself from the flu is to get your annual flu vaccine. We are very fortunate to have a vaccine that helps to prevent the flu and getting the flu vaccine is essential in protecting others.

What happens if I forget or lose my I.D. Badge with the flu sticker?

Go to the Human Resources office to have a replacement badge prepared for you. If this occurs during the non-working hours for the Human Resources office, you will continue to work in a patient care area but would need to wear a mask until you have your I.D. badge replaced.

What if I get the Flu Vaccine somewhere other than Employee Health?

Go to Employee Health and provide written documentation that you have obtained the flu vaccine. You will be given the flu sticker to apply to your I.D. badge.

What if I have a medical condition or religious belief, which prevents me from getting the Flu vaccine?

Go to Employee Health and discuss your situation with one of the Employee Health RNs/Representatives. While your condition or belief may prevent you from obtaining the flu vaccine, you would still be required to wear a mask when working in a designated patient care area.
