NICU Reunion Brings Joy to Staff and Parents

On Sunday, September 7, former NICU patients and their families returned to Med Center Health for The Medical Center at Bowling Green’s 15th NICU Reunion. More than 200 people were in attendance at the event that was held at The Medical Center-WKU Health Sciences Complex.

The event brought much joy to staff and parents alike. Neonatologist Aspasia Fissikoudi, M.D. and numerous NICU nurses who care for our tiniest patients enjoyed reuniting with parents and seeing how their children have grown since their time in the NICU. Anne Mosier and Megan Freeman with Rehab Services interacted with the children and talked with parents about developmental milestones.

Below are some of the stories shared by parents who expressed their gratitude to the NICU staff for the lasting impression they made on them.

“Wells was born and had to be admitted to the NICU immediately. We are thankful for all of the doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists who helped us and took care of our sweet boy! He is thriving and doing so well.  We will always remember everyone’s kindness as we were going through one of the most stressful and traumatic times in our lives.”

“Myleigh ended up not breathing on her own and had to be put on a c-pap machine. Shortly afterwards, her jaundice levels become too high and she was also put under the light. The nurses went above and beyond to make sure my baby was taken care of, as well as myself! I will forever be grateful for the Med Center nurses and how much they truly care!”

“Molly was born at 31 weeks 1 day weighing 2 pounds 7 1/2 ounces and 15 inches long. She stayed in the NICU for 35 days so she could grow, learn to breathe on her own, and take a bottle. We appreciated coming into printed photos of Molly taken during the times we couldn’t be there and especially enjoyed the handmade hats, Easter card, and Mother’s Day card. We are forever grateful to the doctors and nurses who took such good care of Molly during her stay!”

“Our sweet boy Waylon spent 8 long days in the NICU — days that felt like they stretched on forever. During that time, the incredible nurses went above and beyond to ease our worries. They left us the kindest notes on the NICVIEW camera, offering comfort and reassurance when we couldn’t be by his side. Their positivity and compassion were exactly what we needed in those difficult moments. I truly wish I could nominate every single NICU nurse who cared for our little one for the Daisy Award — they all deserve it.”
