Medical Center EMS one of four agencies to be recognized for pediatric care for five straight years

Medical Center EMS has once again been recognized by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS) as an EMS agency that goes above and beyond when it comes to training for and providing pediatric care. This is the fifth consecutive year Medical Center EMS has been recognized by the KBEMS. Medical Center EMS is one of just four Kentucky EMS agencies to receive this honor for five straight years.
“Medical Center EMS was able to attain this recognition based on our outstanding community service with pediatrics, compliance with regulations pertaining to pediatric transport systems, and our requirement for all personnel to complete continuing education in pediatrics,” said Seth Wilson, Director of Medical Center EMS. “Pediatric emergencies are relatively rare, but when they occur, they can be high-risk and high-stress. Proper training ensures providers are prepared during these situations. It’s an honor to be recognized for this program for five years running, and we strive to continue this trend to promote pediatric care and education to our personnel.”
This is the fifth year for the recognition program and all participating agencies will need to reapply annually to demonstrate their continued commitment to excellence in pediatric emergency care. Kentucky Emergency Medical Services for Children commends agencies for their dedication to meeting the needs of the children in their communities.
To be recognized, an agency must designate a pediatric emergency care coordinator to ensure integration of the unique needs of pediatric patients into all aspects of emergency care, comply with national recommendations for pediatric equipment carried on the ambulance and engage in pediatric-focused community outreach activities. There are also requirements for additional pediatric-related continuing education and annual demonstration of pediatric skill competency for all EMTs and paramedics.
