Good Samaritan – Carrie Sheppard

We are pleased to announce that our next Good Samaritan Award recipient is Carrie Sheppard, RN, with the Free-Standing Emergency Department. Please read the nomination below to understand why Carrie’s compassionate act is being recognized.

“A mother arrived at the FSED with her very ill teenager while also caring for a newborn infant. During her visit, she shared that she did not have the specialty formula her newborn required and was struggling financially to afford it. Unfortunately, the FSED did not have the necessary formula available. Recognizing the family’s immediate need, Carrie took it upon herself to order the specialty formula through DoorDash using her own personal funds and had it delivered directly to the FSED. Her actions ensured the mother could remain focused on her sick teenager’s care without having to leave in search of formula for her newborn.

Carrie informed her manager of the situation only after placing the order. When reimbursement was offered, she graciously declined, stating that helping the family was simply the right thing to do. Her compassion, selflessness, and commitment to caring for those in need exemplify the very best of our organization’s values and demonstrate an extraordinary dedication to serving patients and families during their most vulnerable moments.” -Chris Brown
