Dress in Blue on March 3

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and Med Center Health encourages all employees to wear blue on Friday, March 3 during Dress in Blue Day.

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. According to the American Cancer Society, the lifetime risk of developing colorectal cancer is about 1 in 23 for men and 1 in 26 for women. Colorectal cancer is mostly preventable. It is important to understand the risk factors and identify those that you can change.

Colorectal cancer starts with small growths (polyps) that in time can turn cancerous. Screening helps providers find and remove these growths. Screening also finds colorectal cancer early when treatment works best. The American Cancer Society recommends that people at average risk of colorectal cancer start regular screening at age 45.
