Albany DAISY Award Recipient Makayla Lee, RN

Congratulations to Makayla Lee, RN, Clinical Staff Nurse with The Medical Center at Albany. Makayla is Med Center Health’s latest recipient of The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. She was nominated by Tammy Brown, M.D., who wrote the following:

“Although she is one of our youngest nurses, she already possesses the attributes which are necessary to be called extraordinary. First of all, she is a wonderful PERSON within, and it flows outward to everyone she is in contact with. She lives by the quote ‘Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.’  She provided nursing care to my mother during her hospitalization with terminal cancer, and my family and I will never forget the kindness and compassion she extended to mom and to all of us.

“She came into our room with a smile, encouragement, positivity, and cheerfulness. She treated my mother in a professional manner, always being honest to her and caring for her as a person and not a diagnosis.

“Compared to other nurses, I believed this was especially difficult to do, as I was always in the room as my mother’s doctor and daughter. She knew when to talk to my mother directly without always addressing me. She was GREAT! And, yes, she was also prepared to treat me as the daughter who was losing her mother and not just the doctor she was receiving orders from.

“So yes she qualifies! She is knowledgeable, compassionate, cheerful, attentive, hard-working, interested in learning, friendly, genuine, SMART, and so deserving of the DAISY Award!!!!”
