The Medical Center at Scottsville Earns ACR Accreditation
The Medical Center at Scottsville has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). CT scanning — sometimes called CAT scanning — is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.
ACR accreditation is recognized as the gold standard in medical imaging – representing the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
“ACR accreditation assures that Med Center Scottsville will deliver the highest standards of image quality and capture clear detailed images,” said Jennifer King, RT (R), Radiology Manager at Med Center Health Scottsville. “Our highly trained radiologist and technologist work efficiently and make patient care our main focus. The ACR makes regular recommendations to continually update and improve accredited facilities. We always follow these recommendations.”
ACR accreditation is the gold standard to ensure patients receive quality radiological care and diagnostic treatment. Accreditation is required for outpatient providers to bill Medicare Part B for certain imaging procedures.
“We have a great team of CT techs and I knew we would pass, but it is always a huge relief,” said King. “Our Radiologist and Technologist meet stringent education standards. Our equipment is regularly inspected by qualified medical physicists and our facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines required by the ACR.”
The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care.
