Shadowen inducted into WKU Hall of Distinguished Alumni

Rebecca Shadowen, M.D., who passed away from COVID-19 in 2020, was recently inducted into Western Kentucky University’s Hall of Distinguished Alumni. Dr. Shadowen was a nationally-recognized infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist with Med Center Health Infectious Disease & Travel Medicine Specialists. In addition, she served as a leader with the Bowling Green-Warren County Coronavirus Workgroup. Her dedication to the fight against COVID was so strong, she continued to attend meetings of the workgroup even from her hospital bed.

She was on the staff of The Medical Center at Bowling Green for 31 years and was the first physician to bring the infectious disease specialty to Southcentral Kentucky. She was a Fellow with the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Epidemiologists of America. In 2011, she was named Outstanding Woman of Achievement in Health and Science by the Bowling Green-Warren County Human Rights Commission. In addition to being a well-respected physician, she was a researcher and mentor, and is deeply missed by all who knew her.
