Good Samaritan – Daniel Disney

Congratulations to Daniel Disney, Advanced EMT at Medical Center EMS, on receiving the Good Samaritan Award. Daniel was nominated for going above and beyond to help a community member that was in need.

On July 18th, Daniel and I went to an elderly patient who had fallen and needed assistance getting up. When we walked into their home, we noticed it was very hot. After tending to the patient, we spoke with the patient’s family members, who told us they couldn’t afford to have the HVAC repaired. The family members asked if we could look at the thermostat. At the time, it was 91 degrees in the home. We left the residence, and Daniel said, “Let’s swing by Walmart, and I’m going to buy them a window unit. We later went back to the residence, and Daniel installed the window unit for the patient. The patient and family were extremely thankful for his generosity, and I think it shouldn’t go unnoticed, as heat-related emergencies are a leading weather-related cause of death in the United States.” – Kimberly Samaras
