Get Fit Club highlights more healthy food options for the Summer

Last month the Get Fit Club began highlighting fruits and veggies that are great backyard get-together superfoods. Here are the remaining 5 foods that can pack a healthy punch to the foods you serve. Enjoy!

Cucumbers

Just like watermelon, cucumbers are made mostly of water, which means they are low in calories but high in micronutrients. Cucumbers also have a good source of Vitamin B and C, along with minerals such as, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium.

Green beans

These vegetables are full of good bacteria that support a healthy gut microbiome. This can aid in digestion, boost mood and strengthen your immune system. Green beans are also a great source of plant-based fiber and protein.

Zucchini

During the summer months, zucchini is a vegetable that can be found growing in many gardens, so there is usually an abundance available to eat. This is a great thing, because these veggies are high in many vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin K, folic acid, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium.

Tomatoes

Lycopene is an antioxidant that is abundant in tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes rank the highest in lycopene content, while Roma tomatoes contain the highest lycopene concentration. Lycopene has been shown to improve heart health.

Fun Fact – Cooking tomatoes actually raise the amount of Lycopene concentration found in the tomato.

Peaches

These delightful summer sweet treats, are a rich source of carbohydrates, fiber and natural sugars with little fat. Peaches are also sodium and cholesterol free. They are rich in nutrients like vitamins A, C, and B-complex, along with potassium.
