Bobbie Cherry Receives DAISY Award

Congratulations to Bobbie Cherry, a nurse on The Medical Center Cardiac Unit, for receiving The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses.  The award nomination for Bobbie was submitted by the niece of a patient who traveled up from Georgia and saw how amazing Bobbie was with her Aunt.

My Aunt was placed on the Cardiac Floor after her heart bypass surgery. She was a very, shall we say, needy patient. I live in Savannah, GA and I could not be there the entire length of my aunt’s stay in the hospital. Her nurse ensured I (as her POA) was always updated on my aunt’s care and that my son who would spend hours at the hospital with my aunt (a huge task for a 20-year-old) was always made to feel comfortable. As a nurse, I know that we are not always appreciated for our work, are often underappreciated, and take a lot of negativity from our patients.

Bobbie never let my aunt bring her down. She was never once unprofessional toward my aunt (and I know that my aunt was very demanding at times) and showed nothing but compassion towards my aunt and any visitors she had during her stay.

I want Bobbie to know how much I appreciate everything she did during this time and how wonderful she truly is. I can only hope that I am the type of nurse that Bobbie is. Bobbie has a special place in Heaven, for sure. Again, Bobbie is an Angel disguised as a Nurse. She is absolutely wonderful at her job.

ABOUT THE DAISY AWARD

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award for Extraordinary Nurses™ is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. They felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way.
