Witness to Wellness Award – Brooke Carter

Congratulations to Brooke Carter! Brooke is the new Witness to Wellness Award recipient in the Get Fit Club. Brooke’s inspirations for a lifestyle change were her two children, Kash and Kruz. Brooke said she wanted to be healthier for them. Kash had been on “my case” for years about quitting smoking. She said that sometimes you just need to listen to them. She also wanted to get healthier for herself. Along with the health aspect, she said she was tired of spending the money on cigarettes and worrying about how she would smell around others after smoking.
Brooke went on to say, she likes to be in control of her life and she felt that the cigarettes were controlling her! She had wanted to quit for a long time but kept putting it off . Brooke said she quit cold turkey. She wanted to do it the hard way, and that it was one of the hardest things that she has ever done. She says she is healthier and can breathe better.
Brooke said that MCH, her fellow colleagues, and her family have supported her through this journey. As a healthcare worker, her advice to others is, “To make your mind up and then do it. Find what works for you, make a goal and take control of your health. It’s is hard but you can do it!”
The Witness to Wellness program recognizes employees who are dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle. Brooke works for The Medical Center at Bowling Green as a Registered Nurse in Surgery. She was nominated because she changed her lifestyle after 25 years of smoking.
