Western Kentucky Heart and Lung Research Foundation and Educational Trust has been established as a not-for profit organization dedicated to research and continuing medical education in an attempt to help shift the focus of practitioners in the South Central Kentucky Community to include an emphasis on research and education. The Research Foundation will provide the support needed to promote robust research projects conducted by the medical residents, fellows, healthcare students, and other medical providers in the community. The members of the Foundation are a multidisciplinary group of physicians and other healthcare providers.

“Medical research is so vitally important to provide optimal patient care,” said Melinda Joyce, Executive Director of Western Kentucky Heart and Lung Foundation. “ The research happening here at Med Center Health could help to improve care for all patients in the future.”

Since the inaugural meeting of the Research Foundation in January, 2018, we have had more than 120 research projects come before our group. Over 65% of those projects have been completed and many of them have been accepted either for publication or presentation at regional or national meetings. We have watched our annual Research Symposium continue to grow, bringing nationally recognized speakers and outstanding posters and podium presentations that showcase our incredible students, residents, and fellows to our peers, colleagues and community members. Our monthly meetings continue to be an opportunity for collegial discussion about research projects from a wide variety of disciplines.

Research can impact patient care on so many different levels, and because of you, we are able to continue to foster research here in south-central Kentucky and continue our work with our students, residents, and fellows. Our research activities help in attracting the best and brightest to our community. We thank you for being a vital member of the WKHL Research Foundation.
