Parents, children and NICU staff reunite

The Medical Center held it 14th NICU Reunion on Sunday, September 8 at The Medical Center-WKU Health Sciences Complex with over 200 people in attendance. The event provides an opportunity for former NICU babies and their families to reunite with the nurses, doctors and staff who cared for them.

“The NICU reunion was a concept I came up with many years ago, and it is something that many families look forward to and enjoy very much,” said Autumn Coulter, RN. “It is truly rewarding for the NICU staff to see once very sick infants come back to the reunion, thriving and happy and to know that we helped make a difference in their outcomes.”

It was a heartfelt event that showcased the excellent care and compassion that the NICU staff provides every day. “Working in the NICU, we see babies in many different vulnerable situations,” said Autumn. “We care for a variety of patients weighing as small as a pound, up to the heaviest 13 lbs in my experience. I have worked with newborns my entire nursing career of 22 years, and I feel that there is no better job than helping babies and parents.”
