MCH Community Paramedics travel to Savannah to grow and improve skills
Jon Henbest and Kendra Messenger spent 3 days in Savannah, Georgia, learning from and collaborating with Community Paramedic and Mobile Integrated Health Providers nationwide. Community Paramedics are considered “Gap Fillers” and focus on the needs of the community. They learned skills such as Ultrasound Guided IV, toured MED1, a disaster response mobile hospital, and what “gaps” other programs are filling and how they are benefitting their communities. In Warren County, the Community Paramedics work to prevent and reduce hospital readmissions. Community Paramedics provide at-home care and education to patients with various disease processes, with a primary focus on Chronic Disease Management. They work with the patient and their physicians to provide non-fragmented care in the comfort of the patient’s home. A few services offered by the Community Paramedics include ensuring follow-up appointments are made, medication reconciliation, vital sign tracking, fall risk assessment, collection and delivery of blood samples, and administration of certain IV medications.
