In Memoriam – Thomas “TomTom” Shoemake, Jr.

It is with regret that we inform you that Med Center Health employee Thomas “TomTom” Shoemake, Jr. passed away on June 22, 2023. Thomas worked as a Lead Cook at MCBG Food Service and had been employed with us since May 2007. Please join us in extending sympathies to his family, friends and colleagues.

Below are some quotes from TomTom’s co-workers:

“TomTom was an incredibly driven young man,” said Jeremy Imas, executive chef at The Medical Center. “He wanted to be mentored and to learn all the little tricks and tips of a chef. The way he wanted to bring healthy, but tasty, menus and just his all-around drive to be the best was inspirational. TomTom’s presence will be missed, but we as a kitchen team will do our best to let his passion and drive live on through our food. Farewell TomTom.”

“TomTom had a personality that carried the kitchen,” said Tim Andrea, director of food service. “You do not come across many people with as much passion as he had to take care of patients.  You could see and feel his drive every day to push himself to be better for his team and his patients.  TomTom will truly be missed. We will strive every day to match his passion and drive to take care of our patients.”

“He was my ‘work husband’,” said Sherry Dewalt, associate director of food service. “It was always me and him against the world in our department.  We always had each other’s back.  I could depend on him and he on me.  He was my friend and a big part of me loving to work at The Medical Center.”
