Good Samaritan – Adriana Herrera-Cabrera

“Adriana always goes above and beyond for patients and families at Med Center Health. On May 13th, I called Adriana to assist with a situation in ambulatory surgery involving a nine year old boy with autism who only spoke Spanish and parents who only spoke Spanish that were very overwhelmed.
Adriana, who is bilingual, quickly answered my call and came to help. Adriana spoke to the boy in Spanish. He was very scared of his upcoming surgery and was not able to control his emotions. The boy’s parents were also overwhelmed and confused as to what to expect. Adriana stayed with the patients mother through the entire registration process. She explained what they should expect and provided the mother with resources for her son. This is not the first time I have reached out to Adriana for help in situations like this. While the language line is a great resource to staff, some situations require a person who can interpret in person, and Adriana never hesitates to help when asked. Adriana started her career with Med Center Health in our cafeteria as she worked her way through her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Adriana is a great asset to Med Center Health and a true blessing to our patients and families.” – Anna Mae Parrish
