April is National Donate Life Month

April is designated National Donate Life Month to celebrate the tremendous generosity of those who have saved lives by becoming organ, eye, tissue, marrow, and blood donors and to encourage more Americans to follow their fine example. Every donor can save eight lives and can enhance more than 75 other lives.

More than 33,000 Americans in 2023 received a life saving organ transplant, but there are still more than 100,000 people on the national transplant waiting list, with more than 1,000 Kentuckians waiting for an organ.

Each day, 17 people die waiting for an organ transplant, and every eight minutes another person is added to the transplant waiting list. While 90% of U.S. adults support organ donation, only 60% are actual registered donors.
