About Melissa D. Corbin, APRN

Melissa Corbin, APRN is board certified in family medicine by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and has practiced in the Russellville area since 2021.

Melissa’s decision to get into the health care field started early. “I wanted to be a nurse since I was a little girl,’” she says. “My aunt was a nurse and I used to wear her hat and play with her stethoscope.”

When caring for people, Melissa tries to build a relationship that makes each patient feel comfortable. “I strive to make my patients feel safe, heard and valued at their appointments,” she said. She also encourages patients to focus on their future when setting health goals. “My favorite advice to give patients is ‘we cannot change the past, but we can make better choices for the future.’ It doesn’t matter if you ate too much pie for Easter, stopped exercising through spring break or if you have taken a path you are not proud of. No need to beat yourself up; acknowledge the opportunity for improvement and make the changes needed to succeed.”

Melissa chose to focus on family medicine because of the wide age range of patients she knew she would see. She enjoys the opportunity of getting to take care of the whole family. “If you come in to see me because your family member referred you,” she says, “that is the biggest compliment”.

One of Melissa’s favorite areas to help patients is in diabetes management. Her daughter was diagnosed with diabetes at a young age, and she wants to help her patients improve their health. “I understand the struggles of living with diabetes and receiving care without judgement,” she says. “I truly am proud of my patients when we work together to get their A1C down and improve their life.”

Melissa encourages patients to establish care with a primary care provider not only to be seen for wellness visits but sick visits as well. “I typically have same-day or next-day appointments available,” she says. “Overall, it is safer and less stressful to come see someone in the same office where you get routine care.”

Melissa received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2011. She earned her Master of Science degree in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky in 2021.

When she is away from the office, Melissa enjoys spending time with her family. She has recently started refurbishing furniture with her daughters and is creating some really cool stuff.
