Stellar turnout for Expectant Parent Fair
More than 360 people attended The Medical Center’s Expectant Parent Fair on Thursday, April 18 at The Medical Center-WKU Health Sciences Complex. The annual event provides expectant moms, dads, significant others and their families access to resources to help them prepare for the big day and life after as they expand their families.
Participants learned from a variety of demonstrations including car seat safety, infant CPR, safe sleep and new this year, the peanut ball which has the potential to reduce the length of labor. Lactation nurses and a dietitian were on hand to answer questions regarding breastfeeding and pre- and postnatal nutrition. Vendors representing 32 Med Center Health departments, community organizations and local businesses interacted with participants, providing valuable education and information about their services and products.
A special area hosted by the Warren County Public Library featured books, face painting, balloon animals and coloring for small children in attendance. A shuttle provided by Adult Day Center transported participants to the hospital for tours of the OB Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery and Postpartum. And, a variety of door prizes were given out throughout the evening, including a years’ supply of diapers.
Special thank you to the Med Center Health staff who helped pull off an exceptional event including Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Nursery & NICU, OB Education, Lactation Services, Medical Center EMS, Marketing, Security, Food Services, Engineering, ESD, Adult Day Center and departments which participated as vendors. And special thanks to the WKU student nurses who also helped make the event run smoothly.
